Our solution involved the deployment of Doble Real Calisto units, which are renowned for their accuracy in assessing transformer conditions through various diagnostic tests and real-time monitoring. These units provided comprehensive data on the health of the transformers, including Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and other critical indicators. We further enhanced the capabilities of these units by integrating them with our proprietary monitoring platform. This platform is designed to aggregate data from the Calisto units, along with historical DGA reports and visual inspections, to present a holistic view of each transformer’s condition. The platform’s intuitive interface allows for easy navigation and provides actionable insights through trend analysis and predictive analytics.

The primary challenge faced by Thungela Mining was the lack of a systematic approach to assess and rank the health of their transformer fleet. This gap hindered proactive maintenance strategies, potentially leading to unexpected failures and operational disruptions. Thungela sought a robust solution to accurately identify the condition of transformers and prioritize maintenance based on the criticality and health of each unit.

To address these challenges, we introduced a comprehensive transformer assessment program that includes both online and offline evaluations. This program is designed to form the basis for fleet ranking by detecting weaknesses in condition indicators such as dielectric and thermal properties.
